Let’s face it, if you are embarking on the new journey to Parent-dom, it can be pretty overwhelming trying to figure out what essential items are needed for your little bundle of joy. Preparing registry lists and stocking the nursery can turn from exciting to down right dreadful. I have composed a simple yet necessary essential guide for every new mom needing to know what she needs during those first few months of baby’s arrival.

At the end of this post, I will also be giving the deets on how you can win a brand new Nursing Pillow from Ergobaby!

Diapers! Diapers! And wait…More Diapers!

This may seem like a no brainer but I am surprised at how many first time moms completely forget about diapers. In those early stages, the average newborn goes between 10-12 diapers a day with at least 4 of those being bowel movements. For your baby shower registry, instead of asking friends to buy the big tag gifts, request diapers…and lots of them. Don’t limit yourself to just newborn diapers but purchase diapers for all sizes so that they come in handy for later down the road.

A great substitute, money saver, and helper to the environment are cloth diapers. On average, cloth diapers will cost you about $1500 compared to the average cost of a lifetime span of disposable diapers which is around $2800. If environmental issues are more of your concern than money, there are now companies that will pick up your soiled clothed diapers and replace them with clean ones every week.

Ergobaby’s Adapt Baby Carrier

Do I even need to mention the importance of a great baby carrier? Strollers are bulky and you can’t use them around the house. A baby carrier can be taken everywhere, doubles for breastfeeding, and can be worn while performing basic household chores. Say hello to efficiency.

Ergobaby’s Adapt carrier can be worn in three different positions (Front-Inward, Hip, and Back), made to carry your baby from Newborn to Toddler (7-45 lbs) and has the absolute best padded shoulder straps with a crisscross option for more petite moms.

One of my biggest worries when searching for a durable baby carrier is comfort level. The Ergobaby Adapt carrier has an ergonomic bucket seat to ensure your baby is seated in their natural “M shape” position. Most importantly, Ergobaby has been acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as a “hip healthy” product for your baby’s growing hips.

Onesies Outrank Cute Outfits

I get it. Every mother wants to dress their newborn in the cutest outfits. The tiny little sweaters, shoes, and dresses are really why we get pregnant! The reality is, it is a COMPLETE waste of time and money. I apologize in advance for being a Debbie Downer but my suggestion is this- purchase just a few cute outfits for photos and outings but besides that, stock up on the least expensive baby onesies you can find. Your baby will poop, puke, and outgrow everything you buy at lightning speed. At most, the clothing you purchase in the first few months will only get worn once and passed on to someone else. Onesies are inexpensive and you won’t miss them when it’s time to throw them out.

Every Mom Eventually Pumps

I have met many holistic mothers who claim that they would never ever use a baby pump. They insist that there is something so much more natural about exclusively breastfeeding at all times. Kudos to you if you are about that life but honestly, EVERY. MOM. EVENTUALLY. PUMPS! Breastfeeding is exhausting and time consuming. Pumping allows dad to get up a few times in the night to feed the baby and it especially comes in handy if you plan on going back to work. There are many different types of pumps you can use ranging from hand pumps to bulky electronic ones. My suggestion- buy both!

Ergobaby’s Natural Curve Nursing Pillow

Speaking of breastfeeding, you will be doing a lot of it. The best way to ensure longevity, is to make sure that both you and baby are comfortable in the process. Ergobaby’s Natural Curve Nursing pillow has a unique contour that provides tummy to tummy contact for mommy and baby to allow the best position for breastfeeding. The pillow also wraps around mommy’s waist to allow for arm resting during periods of extended breastfeeding. Ergobaby offers three exchangeable nursing pillow covers for easy removal plus the covers are machine washable.
