Time flies when you’re having fun, right? Right! Unless you are experiencing rainy days like we are. With Summer half way through, we are becoming pretty creative on how to spend our days. With the rain falling outside, it is a perfect time to create a fun indoor picnic and have story time with Percy Jackson & The Olympians.
Last month we talked about the first book of the series – The Lightning Thief – thanks to our sponsorship with Read Riordan we even gave a book set of the series away (congrats @its_ashan_tay!) If you have not read the book yet, I won’t ruin it for you but even as an adult, I enjoyed reading the first leg of the series. Now we are on to book two – The Sea Of Monsters, where Percy Jackson travels to the Bermudia Triangle to find the Golden Fleece which has supernatural healing powers.
On this rainy day, we decided to have an indoor Percy Jackson picnic and create yummy blue smoothie bowls to go with our creative adventure. Since Percy’s favorite color is blue, our smoothie bowls were the perfect fit.
Health is pretty important so we wanted to create something that not only tasted good but would also be good for us. Smoothie bowls also work as a great meal replacement for us, so we replaced a usual breakfast meal with our bowls. To make this a learning activity, Nyesha did all the preparation herself. Learning how to eat a good diet starts from an early age.
Blue Percy Jackson Inspired Smoothie Bowls
- 1/2 cup frozen peaches
- 1/2 cup frozen bananas
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapples
- 1 cup almond milk
- 10-15 drops of blue food coloring (plant based!)
Run your ingredients through a blender. It is best to use frozen fruit so that your smoothie bowl holds a thicker texture.
You can be creative here and add whatever delicious toppings you would like! Grab a few of your favorite stuffed animals or dolls and have them join in for picnic fun.
