Oh to be a woman in this day and age…what a beautiful sight to see! International Women’s Day is a “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.” (www.internationalwomensday.com/about). International Women’s Day started in 1908 with 15,000 women marching for equal pay and voting rights in New York City. IWD was recognized by the United Nations in 1975 and by 2000, it had become a global phenomenon. While IWD is such a powerful day to celebrate, the contributions of African American women are rarely mentioned in the fights and struggles faced during this movement. Women such as Jacqueline Jones and Milla Granson are often times omitted (African American Registry). Help us celebrate some real #blackgirlmagic as we continue a legacy of a International Women’s Day by including the many great Black women amongst us. May we know them. May we be them.If a photo has not been tagged, please add to the comments so that we can give proper credit. Enjoy! 1. Michelle Obama
